Dedication of Interpretive Panel to Honour Viola Desmond

Peter participated in a special ceremony during the Black Gala Homecoming to honour The Late Viola Desmond, who earlier this year earned a Grant of Free Pardon from Queen Elizabeth for her 1946 conviction of sitting in the whites only section of the New Glasgow movie theatre. Viola Desmond died in 1965. The interpretive panel was erected in Laurie Park and donated by the Town of New Glasgow.
